Technology That Enhances Your Dental Visit

Trios 3D Intraoral Scanner
At Austral Smiles, we use the Trios 3D intraoral scanner to quickly capture detailed digital impressions without the discomfort of traditional moulds. Many patients prefer this method for its simplicity and reduced gag reflex stimulation.
The scanner provides high-resolution images of your teeth and gums in seconds. This supports more accurate planning for crowns, aligners, or veneers and may help reduce the number of appointments needed.

Zoom Whitening System
Austral Smiles offers Philips Zoom teeth whitening, a professional whitening option for reducing surface stains. You can choose in-chair treatment for a quicker result or a take-home kit for a gradual approach.
Zoom uses a light-activated peroxide gel to break down stains on the enamel, helping enhance your natural teeth’s colour. Results vary based on the starting tooth shade and the cause of discolouration. Some patients may experience short-term sensitivity during or after treatment.

Orthopantomogram (OPG)
An OPG is a panoramic X-ray that shows all teeth, jaws, and surrounding bone in a single image. It helps detect hidden issues like impacted teeth, jaw changes, or early bone loss that are not always visible during a check-up.
We use OPG imaging in our Austral dental clinic to support routine exams, orthodontic assessments, wisdom tooth extraction planning, and other diagnostic evaluations for patients of all ages.

Lateral Cephalometric
This scan provides a side-view image of the head, jaw, and teeth, commonly used in orthodontic care. It helps assess jaw alignment, airway size, and how facial structures relate to each other.
At Austral Smiles, we use this tool to help plan individualised treatment for braces or clear aligners. It supports a better understanding of growth patterns, aiding the creation of tailored orthodontic treatment plans.

Cone Beam CT (CBCT)
Our CBCT scanner captures 3D images of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding anatomy in one scan. It provides more anatomical detail than standard dental X-rays, supporting better visibility of bone, nerves, and sinus areas.
At our Austral clinic, CBCT scans are especially useful for planning dental implants, evaluating wisdom teeth, or performing root canal treatments on teeth with anatomical complexity. This helps guide treatment decisions and supports careful planning for a range of dental procedures.
